Heritage Walks - Pune

While in Pune recently, to attend a family function, I had a chance to go for a Heritage Walk conducted by Janwani in conjunction with Pune Municipal Corporation. In 2012, Heritage Volunteer Guides started taking participants on an exciting 2 1/2 hour journey through history, architecture, arts and traditions right in the heart of Pune City and now it is an award winning event. The walk I was part of was conducted by Shirish Kembhavi, an Architect by profession and he was assisted by Ms Suchitra Joglekar. We assembled at 7 am at the Pune Municipal Corporation office in Shivaji Nagar where we were met by the volunteers. Our 1st stop was Shivaji Bridge, where we saw the Islamic influences on the bridge constructed by the British to connect Pune City with the newly developed University of Pune.
